My name is Laura Daly from Ireland, during my holiday I volunteered with Uganda Volunteers Foundation, helping in the Education and Literacy program, I really enjoyed my experience working with UVF as an organization that supports poor, vulnerable women and their children through Education and women empowerment, this was the best thing I had ever done in my life. I was made feel very welcome. Everybody greeted me with smiles and so much love. The children and the teachers in the school were so grateful and thankful for the supplies and really showed their appreciation through songs and dances.
I personally loved being hands on in the classroom getting an opportunity to teach and interact with the children. Correcting their books and giving them one on one attention. I also enjoyed playing football and teaching the children new games at break. Talking to older children about their life, studies and what they hope to achieve in the future really helped me to understand how important school is to them. Also how much they enjoy going to school which so many children take for granted.
Overall my experience was excellent. I really enjoyed my time. I have never experienced a welcome like it from the kids and staff at UVF and the school.
If anyone is planning a volunteer trip. I would highly recommend volunteering in Uganda with Uganda Volunteers Foundation, you won’t regret it.
